We camped out in the van at a vista point on the road to General Sherman, the largest living thing on earth, by weight.  The next morning we went through Sequoia and Kings Canyon N.P. and then to Yosemite.  We drove to Yosemite with the intention of taking a 2 or 3 mile hike that we saw on the park map we found on the internet.  We didn't realize that it was a mile an a half one way but also a half a mile up.  The best estimate we found for the time to hike up was 4 or 5 hours.  It would be getting dark 2 hours later, so we just played around on the boulders at the base of the water fall and left at sunset.
