Our first real stop was Hong Kong for a bit of big city life before heading out. Sophie and James' brother Jon lives here with his fiance, Lily. We were all a bit travel weary after the 12 hour flight. Did I say 12? For Klotz,it was more like 19 nearly sleepless hours. On top of that, for his half-day layover in London, we did a shotgun tour of the City whilst he was struggling to stay awake. Anyways, we all still managed to make it in to Hong Kong from our Kowloon hostel for a quite sizeable dinner with jon and Lily. We were all starting to fade and headed back the hostel. The next day, we met up with Jon and caught a ferry out to hike Lantau Peak. I'm sure the view would have been awesome but we were hiking in a cloud that day. It was still an invigorating hike. Sure enough,as soon as we were nearly down and out of the clouds, the sun then showed up. From a distance, we admired the Giant Buddha for which Lantau Peak may be better known for then headed back to Hong Kong. Over the next couple days,we did a lot of wandering aimlessly through the city and eating.. plenty of eating. Lily really enjoyed introducing us to new food almost as much as we enjoyed eating it. I can't say that if I saw chicken's foot on a menu again, I would definitely order it. Well, maybe if I wasn't already filled to the brim. We also got to attempt some costumes before going to Jon and Lily's ultimate frisbee awards party. We didn't have much to work with (e.g. black duct tape, bubble wrap, and an old balloon), so our costumes were all over the place and therefore, pretty silly. It was a lot of fun. We have now left Hong Kong on the trail to Yangshou in hope of doing some rock climbing. We are now on the 8 hour journey there from Guangzhou, where we slept last night. I will say this, getting around is a little bit more difficult than I imagined. No one speaks english and it's been a bit of a struggle transitioning from repeating language tapes on the way to work to actually talking to people. We're getting by, though. It's only the first day.
